Sheikh Hasina
BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her associates of devastating the country’s banking sector through years of plunder.
“Over the last 15 years, Sheikh Hasina and her allies have engaged in boundless looting, leaving the banking sector in ruins,” Dudu said while addressing a discussion titled ‘15 Years of Anti-Fascist Struggle and the July Uprising’ at the National Press Club on Saturday.
Referring to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus’s pledge to recover laundered money, he said: “The current government leader promised to bring that money back. I believe he remains committed, and I hope he can fulfil that pledge.”
On the prospect of an elected government, the BNP leader said, “If an elected government comes to power, it will be able to bring back the money smuggled abroad.”
He claimed that fraudulent elections and manipulation of results began with the 1973 polls under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and alleged that Sheikh Hasina has followed the same path since 2008, depriving people of their right to vote.
“She must be held accountable for genocide, bank looting, and vote rigging,” Dudu declared, adding that her actions over the last 15 years amounted to a denial of independence and the spirit of the Liberation War.
“The key issues of the Liberation War were independence and democracy. Democracy means holding fair elections, but she has stolen votes and hollowed out the country. She must be brought back, tried, and punished,” he asserted.
Calling for unity within his party, Dudu said, “The BNP is the only party that can save the nation. For this, our leaders and activists must remain united and vigilant, as they have in the past.”
