At least 10 people were injured when a BNP-backed mass rally came under attack in Kachua upazila of Chandpur on Saturday afternoon.

According to local sources, the rally was organised in protest against alleged insults directed at BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman. The protest, led by BNP supporter Mosharraf Hossain, began with a gathering and later turned into a procession in Rahimanagar Bazar area.

Eyewitnesses said a group of rival political activists launched an attack on the procession, welding sticks and throwing bricks, leaving at least 10 people injured. The injured were given primary treatment at the Kachua Upazila Health Complex and nearby private hospitals, confirmed hospital sources and relatives of the victims.

The incident has created tension in the Rahimanagar Bazar area, with many shops shutting down and additional police deployed to prevent further escalation.

Md Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station, said that a group of 15–20 unidentified assailants attacked the BNP-led procession with sticks and stones.

“Several people were injured in the attack. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Patrolling is ongoing to maintain order,” he said.

District BNP General Secretary Advocate Selim Ullah Selim, along with leaders of Jubo Dal and Mahila Dal, was present at the protest rally. He strongly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators, reports UNB.

“No true BNP supporter would disrupt a peaceful protest rally against insults to our acting chairman, Tarique Rahman,” Selim said. “The attackers are nothing but accomplices of fallen fascism,” he added.
