Former CEC KM Nurul Huda is escorted to Dhaka CMM Court on June 27, 2025.

A Dhaka court has placed former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on a four-day remand for the second time in connection with a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

He stands accused of disenfranchising voters by conducting a farcical election, including alleged ballot-stuffing the night before polls.

The order was issued on Friday by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka following a petition by the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Shamsuzzoha Sarkar.

Nurul Huda was presented before the court around 2:30 pm for the hearing. Earlier in the week, the police had sought a 10-day remand, but the court had initially approved four days.

On Sunday evening, a group of people stormed Huda’s residence, harassed him, and handed him over to police. He was later shown arrested in a case filed by BNP leader Salah Uddin Khan with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

The case names three former CECs—Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad (2014), KM Nurul Huda (2018), and Kazi Habibul Awal (2024)—as accused.
