National Democratic Party (NDP) today applied to the Election Commission (EC) for registration as a political party.

Emerging from a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at his office, NDP chairman KM Abu Taher told journalists they had previously applied for the but the then fascist government obstructed its enrolment as a registered party.

“We have discussed the causes of why were denied of the registration,” Taher said adding that since former BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury formed the party and served as its secretary general the then EC did not register the NDP as a political party.

“Eventually we have fulfilled all criteria,” Taher said.

The NDP chairman said his party leaders and workers took to the street during the last year’s uprising across the country to oust the fascist government.

“Now we want to get registered as a political party as it is a national democratic party. We have been struggling since long,” he added.

Taher said the CEC assured them of extending cooperation within the legal frame.

A five-member delegation including secretary general Abdullah Harun Sohel visited the EC, reports BSS.
