ANFREL delegation meets Fakhrul, discusses election issue

A delegation from the Bangkok-based international election observation organisation, the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL), met BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday.


The meeting took place at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, said BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

The four-member delegation was led by ANFREL Executive Director Brizza Rosales.

The other members included Maya Bhatti, Tharindu Abeyarathna, and Afsana Amey.

During the meeting, Sayrul said the ANFREL representatives discussed various matters concerning Bangladesh’s upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as the role of international election observers.

Founded in 1997, ANFREL is an independent, non-partisan, non-governmental organisation committed to ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in Asia, based on universal and equal suffrage.

The organisation includes 27 member groups from 17 Asian countries, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and East Timor, reports UNB.
