Bangladesh government has officially reversed its decision to ban the political activities of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir. The public security division of the home ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Wednesday.

The gazette states that there was no concrete evidence linking Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Chhatra Shibir, or their associate bodies to violent activities. The government has concluded that these organizations are not involved in terrorism or violence, prompting the reversal of the ban.

On August 1, during the final stages of the Students Against Discrimination movement, the Sheikh Hasina government imposed the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatra Shibir, and their affiliated organizations under section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

However, three days later, on August 5, the Hasina-led government was toppled, leading to Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India. An interim government was formed on August 8, which then reversed the ban.
