40 arrested by RAB over political violence

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested a total of 40 people in connection with the cases of attack, sabotage, and violence that took place in different parts of the country.

BNP's Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, former general secretary of Cox's Bazar Chakaria Upazila unit Chhatra Dal Abdullah Al Noman, Jashore Kotwali Chhatra Dal vice-president Azizul Molla and Jubo Dal vice-president Jasim, Dakshin Keraniganj Swechasebak Dal president Lalon Hossain, Noakhali Begumganj unit Jubo Dal joint convener Asib Ali, and Sirajganj’s Raiganj unit Jubo Dal president Shamsul Islam, were among the arrestees.

Earlier on Sunday morning, RAB detained Altaf Hossain Chowdhury from a house in Tongi and later sent to jail rejected the bail plea.

Inspector Abu Ansar, the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and requested to keep him in jail.

BNP leaders and activists clashed with law enforcers centering the party’s October 28 grand rally in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan, Kakrail and other areas.

Police Constable Aminul Islam was severely injured in the clashes and later died.

On October 29, police filed a murder case with Paltan police station, naming 64 BNP leaders including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Mirza Fakhul, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Senior Joint Secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal were shown arrested in the murder case, reports UNB.
