We want to build a just, insaf-based Bangladesh: Shafiqur
Opposition Leader Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman today said they want to play a constructive role in parliament and continue to work to build a humane, discrimination-free, just and insaf-based Bangladesh.
"We love our country. We want to build a humane, discrimination-free, just and insaf-based Bangladesh. We seek everyone's cooperation in this effort," he said at a view-exchange meeting with journalists at the LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad tonight after the prorogation of the 3rd session of 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
The Opposition Leader said their demands do not favour or oppose any particular political party, rather they reflect the aspirations and rights of the people.
"Our every demand concerns the rights of the people. We cannot compromise on these issues and will remain steadfast," he said.
"We are not a conventional opposition party. We do not want to leave after creating chaos, throwing chairs or engaging in confrontations. We want to be a constructive opposition," he said.
He also urged journalists to play a constructive role in building the country.
"We expect your cooperation as the fourth estate. Criticise us when we make mistakes and stand beside us when we take initiatives to realise the aspirations of the people," he said.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer said they wanted to ensure that no government could exercise arbitrary power and that democratic institutions remained accountable to the people.
"We want to build a Bangladesh based on justice and insaf, free from discrimination, where people's rights receive proper protection," he added.
Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam and other Jamaat leaders were present, reports UNB.
