Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to take oath as Bangladesh's 23rd president at Bangabhaban on Friday evening following his election in Parliament.
The Election Commission has already issued a gazette officially notifying his election.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Bangabhaban after the completion of the necessary formalities.
According to the Constitution, Acting Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal will administer the oath to the newly elected president.
The decision followed a legal review by the Ministry of Law on the constitutional provisions governing the swearing-in ceremony.
The Cabinet Division had sought the ministry's opinion on who should administer the oath and which constitutional provisions would apply.
In a notification issued on Thursday, the Law Ministry said Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed is currently performing the duties of the acting president under Article 54 of the Constitution.
As a result, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal is exercising the powers and performing the duties of the Speaker under Article 74(3) of the Constitution.
The ministry concluded that, as the Deputy Speaker is currently performing the duties of the Speaker, he is the appropriate constitutional authority to administer the oath to the newly elected president.
