Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today reiterated that they want Awami League (AL) to be banned as a political party through judicial process instead of administrative way for their involvement in crimes against humanity and genocide during the July Mass Uprising.

“We in principle want Awami League to be banned as political party in due course of the law rather the administrative process. It is the earlier stand of the BNP,” he said while speaking to journalists about the current issues at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat here.

Ahmed said the scope of trying AL as a political party has created with making changes in the ICT Act in accordance with Article 47 of the Constitution which allow hold trial for committing three crimes such as crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

Earlier, mankind can be tried under the law, he said, adding that but now organizations can also be tried in accordance with the provisions.

The minister said the country believes that the AL is responsible for the crimes against humanity and genocide so they have to face trial after thorough investigation.
