Mona made the remarks while presiding over a preparatory meeting held on Saturday afternoon at the city BNP office marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and to ensure the successful implementation of the party's six-day programme.
He said after assuming state power, Ziaur Rahman established peace, discipline and rule of law in the country, adding that his initiatives for economic progress and national development are still remembered by the people.
Referring to the political situation in 1975, Mona alleged that democracy had been destroyed through the formation of BAKSAL on January 25 that year, and added that Ziaur Rahman later restored multi-party democracy in Bangladesh.
Among others, Sonadanga Thana BNP president Hafizur Rahman Moni, general secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, Daulatpur Thana BNP president Murshid Kamal, general secretary Sheikh Imam Hossain, and Khan Jahan Ali Thana BNP president Kazi Mizanur Rahman, general secretary Abu Sayeed Howlader Abbas addressed the meeting.
Leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies were urged at the meeting to observe the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with due respect and solemnity, reports BSS.
