Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today said the country's people had suffered from deprivation and a lack of development over the past 17 years.

"We must emerge from this situation. The current government is working for the welfare of the people and ensuring that no one remains deprived of development benefits," he said.

The minister made the remarks while exchanging views with leaders and activists of the newly formed Chandragonj Upazila at his residence in Lakshmipur town this afternoon.

During the meeting, Anee congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and expressed gratitude to him for declaring Chandragonj as a new upazila, reports BSS.

Addressing party leaders and activists, he said, "By forming Chandragonj Upazila, the BNP has proved that the party can ensure development when it wants to. Therefore, everyone must work together for the greater interests of the country and the locality."
