Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has called for stronger cooperation between the government and the opposition, saying national challenges can be resolved through a united approach.

He made the remarks in parliament while welcoming a proposal to form a 10-member joint committee to address the country’s power and energy situation. The committee will include equal representation from both the ruling party and the opposition.

The proposal was placed by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who suggested that Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood lead the panel to ensure its recommendations are effectively implemented.

The Speaker expressed hope that the opposition would soon nominate its five members, as the current session of the Jatiya Sangsad is expected to be prorogued by the end of the month.

He noted that recent discussions in the House by both the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition have raised public expectations, adding that continued cooperation could pave the way for resolving key national issues.

Earlier, the Prime Minister emphasised that appointing the energy minister as head of the committee would help translate its recommendations into practical action, particularly in addressing the ongoing energy challenges.
