Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said the ruling BNP is ready to engage in dialogue with opposition parties to protect the country’s interests and address public concerns.
“Every political party in this parliament has reached a point where there is no disagreement on safeguarding the interests of the country and its people. The BNP is willing to hold discussions with the opposition for this purpose,” he said.
He made the remarks during a parliamentary discussion on addressing the ongoing energy crisis and reducing public suffering.
Opposition Leader Md Shafiqur Rahman raised the issue in the House during the 19th sitting of the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister thanked the opposition leader and other members for bringing forward an important issue.
“This parliament has been formed through great sacrifice. It reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people for a better future,” he said, adding that while differences in opinion exist, there is unity in protecting national interest.
He noted that the energy crisis and its wider impact are not only a national concern but also part of a global challenge shaped by changing international conditions.
“Whatever way we look at it, the situation we are facing is significant for Bangladesh as well as many other countries,” he said.
The Prime Minister also assured the House that the government is open to all constructive proposals.
“If anyone brings suggestions or recommendations in the interest of the country and its people, we are ready to discuss and consider them, regardless of political position,” he said.
He added that the government would formally invite the opposition for dialogue and consider any practical and implementable proposals.
“Anything that helps protect the interests of the people of Bangladesh will be taken forward,” he said.
The session resumed at 3pm with the Speaker in the chair.
