7 cops injured in attack during drive in Gazipur

Seven police personnel were injured in an attack by the relatives of an abductor while attempting to arrest the alleged abductor after rescuing a kidnapped teenage girl in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district on Sunday.


The arrestees were identified as Adil and his father Monir Hossain.

Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, said a team from Tangail Sadar Police Station, along with members of Sreepur Police Station, conducted a drive in Nijmaona village to arrest the main accused Adil and his father in connection with a kidnapping case filed with Tangail Sadar Police Station.

During the drive police managed to detain the two accused and rescue the abducted teenage girl.

However, relatives of the detainees along with local people attacked the police team and snatched the two accused from their custody along with handcuffs, leaving seven policemen injured.

Later, additional police forces rushed to the spot and arrested the two accused snatched away  by the relatives of the arrestees, reports UNB. 

They also rescued the kidnapped girl.

Police arrested four more people in connection with the incident, said OC.
