Khulna, Sept 7 — Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have arrested an alleged top criminal of Daulatpur area of Khulna and recovered several firearms from different parts of the area following his arrest.
The arrestee was Arman, also known as Armin and Dipu, son of Asaduzzaman Mithu of Maheshwarpasha in Daulatpur.
RAB-6 members arrested him from Boalmari in Faridpur district on Sunday night.
Later, acting on information provided by him, they conducted drives at different locations in Daulatpur and recovered several weapons, said Lt Col Nistar Ahmed, commander of RAB-6.
He said Arman, an accused in several murder cases, had left Khulna with his family and been staying in Boalmari upazila amid recent police operations.
With the help of advanced technology, RAB members tracked down his location and arrested him during a raid there on Sunday night, the RAB commander said.
He said the arrested man was later taken to Daulatpur where RAB conducted raids and recovered the weapons.
Nistar Ahmed said the body of Ghoura Rajib, a leader of the Purba Banglar Communist Party, was recovered from the Bhairab River around the middle of this year. Arman is the second accused named in the case filed over the killing, he said.
According to local residents and a police, Arman was once an active member of the Huma gang, another notorious criminal group operating in the Daulatpur area. He later formed his own group and emerged as its leader. - UNB
