Police Issue Nationwide Alert Over Attack Threats

Police Headquarters has issued a nationwide alert over intelligence reports indicating that law enforcement vehicles could be targeted in possible attacks, directing all field units to strengthen security measures immediately.

The directive was issued on Saturday through an urgent message from the Operations Control Room at Police Headquarters.

According to the instruction, police units have been warned that official vehicles, including jeeps, pickups, buses and other transport used by law enforcement agencies, may come under attack. Officers have been instructed to exercise maximum caution and, whenever operationally necessary, park vehicles only in secure locations.

The order also calls for enhanced security around government vehicles stationed at police stations, police lines, office compounds and other designated facilities after duty hours.

Field units have been directed to intensify patrols, increase surveillance and remain vigilant for suspicious persons or objects in and around police installations. Any suspicious activity must be reported to higher authorities immediately.

The alert follows a series of recent security scares in the capital.

On 24 July, a bomb concealed inside an umbrella was recovered from beneath Motijheel Metro Rail Station. A day later, another abandoned bag with an umbrella protruding from it was found outside Bangladesh Bank, triggering panic.

On Saturday, separate suspicious bags were found on the second floor of Mirpur-10 Metro Station and near a pillar at Farmgate Metro Station. Police were informed after fears that the bags might contain explosives.

Bomb disposal teams from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police later examined both bags and confirmed that no explosive materials were found.

Police Headquarters sources said the latest alert was issued in light of these incidents to enhance precautionary measures.

Police Headquarters spokesperson and Assistant Inspector General (AIG) AHM Shahadat Hossain said such security directives are issued from time to time to keep law enforcement personnel alert.

He said the latest instruction is part of routine security measures and urged the public not to panic.
