BOA celebrates arrival of King's Baton Relay

Dhaka, 17 Dec - Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and Commonwealth Games Association Bangladesh Wednesday celebrated the 

arrival of the King's Baton Relay as part of the lead-up to the Glasgow 2026 
Commonwealth Games, an event that included a rally, cleanliness programme and 
sports exhibition.

The 23rd Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 
to August 2 next year. A delegation travels to all Commonwealth countries 
carrying the King's Baton and the arrival of the baton is celebrated with 
various ceremonies.

In continuation of this, a colorful rally, cleanliness programme, and sports 
exhibition were organised by BOA and Commonwealth Games Association 
Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Army Stadium.

The ceremony began by releasing balloons while Md. Abdus Salam, vice 
president of BOA, was present at the event as the chief guest.

Her Excellency the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke, along 
with High Commissioners of various Commonwealth countries, Secretary of the 
Ministry of Youth and Sports Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam , BOA Secretary General Md. 
Jobayedur Rahman Rana, its vice presidents, deputy secretaries general, 
executive committee members, director general, representatives of the 
Ministry of Youth and Sports, representatives of the Army Sports Control 
Board, presidents and general secretaries of various national federations, 
players and officials were present in the ceremony.

The rally started from the Army Stadium and terminated at the same venue 
after passing through Airport Road, Staff Road level crossing. A cleanliness 
drive was held at the end of the rally.

The British High Commissioner, in her speech, highlighted the significance of 
the Baton Relay in the Commonwealth and thanked the BOA for embodying the 
values of the Commonwealth Games Federation through this programme.

The chief guest of the event Md. Abdus Salam described the baton as a symbol 
of unity and diversity through which it has been possible to unify the 
Commonwealth countries.

He highlighted Bangladesh's achievements in the Commonwealth Games and also 
expressed hope for better results in the future.BSS
