Ziaul Hoque former senior assistant editor of Daily Ittefaq' is no more

Jatiya Press Club member and former senior assistant editor of Daily Ittefaq Ziaul Hoque is no more. He passed away due to old age while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilaihe Rajeun) at 5.15 pm on Monday. He was 82 years old. He is survived by his only son, grandchildren and numerous relatives, colleagues and well-wishers.

Ziaul Hoque started journalism in the daily Purdbesh newspaper in the mid-sixties. During the seventies, eighties and nineties, he gained reputation as a well-known post editorial writer. Once a prominent political activist Ziaul Haque left politics and joined journalism. Even in politics, he could have achieved a lot of fame, his colleagues said.

A staunch supporter of journalistic freedom, he has contributed much by being involved in union activities and the management of the National Press Club.

He was buried in the Kalshi graveyard after janaza prayers at the Mirpur journalist residential area mosque at 10 o'clock on Monday night. Apart from his colleagues from the residential area, Ruhul Amin Ghazi, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Shahidul Islam, president and Khorshed Alam general secretary of DUJ participated in the funeral.

Before the funeral prayers, former minister Syed Didar Bakht, president of journalist residential area Abdul Awal Thakur and Ziaul Haque's only son Kushal spoke and called everyone to pray for him. Khatib Maulana Mizanur Rahman of Baitul Farooq Mosque led the funeral prayer.

National Press Club President Farida Yasmin MP and General Secretary Shyamal Dutt expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Ziaul Hoque. In a statement, the leaders prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and extended their deepest condolences to his bereaved family members. – GreenWatch News Desk
