BanglaFact, the fact-checking and media research wing of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a misleading campaign on social media using a video from Nepal to target the BNP.

According to BanglaFact, the video being circulated with claims that a BNP leader beat an elderly man is not related to Bangladesh. The incident actually occurred in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The video has been shared on Facebook alleging that a BNP leader assaulted an old man after hitting him.

The organisation said that since the 2024 Mass Uprising, sections of Indian media, India-based social media accounts and some local Facebook pages have been spreading misinformation about Bangladesh, particularly targeting the just-concluded interim government and parties and organisations involved in the Mass Uprising.

BanglaFact added that attempts to spread rumours and false information on recent issues are also being detected, reports BSS.
