Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today spoke at a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna in the capital.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasised the need to present the true and impartial history of the Liberation War through all activities undertaken by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

He made the remarks during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna this afternoon, which was attended by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah, and senior officials of the ministry.

During the meeting, Adviser Faruk E Azam criticised previous efforts by the ministry, noting that a distorted version of history had been promoted through the construction of various infrastructures, costing crores of taka.

He pointed out that many of these structures lacked detailed accounts of battlefields or authentic representation of freedom fighters. “Instead, exaggerated content was presented using the images and artefacts of a single family,” he said.

As an example, he cited a research project titled ‘Implementation of Bangabandhu's Ideology and the Spirit of the Liberation War’ which received Tk 23 crore in funding. “Despite this substantial allocation, no meaningful research was conducted,” he added.

The adviser further alleged that Sheikh Hasina politicised the Liberation War legacy by turning freedom fighters into a privileged class and using state resources for partisan purposes. “She ran Awami League politics using infrastructures built for freedom fighters,” he said.

Addressing issues related to the Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust, he noted that many of its unprotected assets are highly valuable and require urgent attention.

In response, the Chief Adviser directed immediate appointment of a consultant and formation of a committee to explore how these properties could be utilised to enhance the trust’s capacity. “This trust must be revived,” he asserted, adding that new enterprises could be developed on these lands.

Prof Yunus also instructed officials to ensure all future ministry projects contribute to presenting an accurate and inclusive account of the Liberation War.

At the meeting, the ministry presented a review of its key initiatives under the current interim government, along with a six-month action plan.
