Dhaka, May 3 --The fire that broke out on the top floor of a multi-storey building in the capital’s Purana Paltan on Saturday night was brought under control after four hours of efforts.
Seven firefighting units brought the fire under control at 12:25 am, said Md Saleh Uddin, deputy director of Dhaka Division Fire Service and Civil Defence, while briefing reporters around 1.30am (Sunday).
He said that there was a tin-shed room on the roof of the building that was full of electronic equipment, and there was no ventilation system.
As a result, we struggled to control the blaze, Anwarul added.
"We have successfully controlled the fire but it will take some more time to fully douse the blaze," he said.
The fire originated around 8:25pm on Saturday, and the first unit of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) reached the spot at 8:32pm, he said.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and no casualties have been reported, said the fire official. - UNB
