Govt to Auction 52 Luxury Cars Imported by Ex-MPs
The interim government has announced plans to auction off 52 luxury cars imported by former members of the dissolved 12th Jatiya Sangsad, said Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on August 28.
The vehicles, still held at the ports, will be sold to recover customs taxes, as revealed by Ahmed following a meeting with business leaders at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The cars were imported before the recent ouster of the Awami League-led government.
Salehuddin emphasized that returning the cars would result in lost revenue for Bangladesh, as they are currently being held at the ports.
The National Board of Revenue has been instructed to oversee the sale of these vehicles. According to sources familiar with the meeting, most of the cars are from Toyota's LandCruiser series. The vehicles will be sold at market price with flexible payment options.
