'Choose bloodshed or resignation,' Nahid demands of PM
Nahid Islam, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has issued a stark ultimatum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, demanding she choose between continuing violence or stepping down to meet students' demands.
Speaking at a rally in Shahbagh, Dhaka, at 3:00 PM on Sunday (August 4), Nahid declared, "The decision is yours: continue the violence and bloodshed, or resign from your position in response to our demands."
Nahid emphasized the movement’s clear aim and commitment: "Our goal is victory. We are still allowing time for the government to respond and continue monitoring the situation at Ganabhaban."
He further stated, "We have articulated our primary demand. Now, we await the government's response before outlining the future course for Bangladesh. Should we face enforced disappearances, arrests, or worse, continue the struggle against this regime."
Nahid also accused the Awami League of instigating violence: "Awami League is pushing the country toward civil war. The government is creating a war-like atmosphere. The students and people are prepared for any scenario. We are equipped with sticks today, and if necessary, we are ready to escalate our resistance. Stand against the government and drive out the terrorists from Bangladesh."
