5 jailed for illegal sand extraction from Jamuna in Sirajganj



Sirajganj, July 15 - A mobile court sent five people to jail for 6 months each, over illegal extraction of sand from the Jamuna river in Sirajganj.

Tipped off, a mobile court led by Sirajganj Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate SM Rokibul Hasan, raided the Crossbar Dam-1 area near Brahmanboyra of Sadar Upazila on Sunday afternoon and arrested Abdur Razzak, 50, of Volkutia village of Bhuapur upazila of Tangail, Rahim Badsha, 30, of Chituapara village, Al Amin, 29, of Dakshin Bildga village of Gopalpur upazila of the same district, Rubel Bhuiya, 45, of Sirajganj’s Dhanbandhi area and Sabuj, 25, of Janpur area.

Rokibul, the executive magistrate, also vowed that such drives against illegal sand extraction would continue.-UNB
