The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has introduced an online system for allocating government residential houses, aiming to make the process more transparent, faster, simpler and more citizen-friendly.

As part of the initiative, an online notice inviting applications for house allocation was published on September 15, 2026. Applications were accepted from September 16 to 30.

A total of 596 applications were submitted for 54 vacant houses across different categories. Following scrutiny, 342 applications were deemed eligible, while 254 were rejected for failing to meet the required conditions.

Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher formally inaugurated the announcement of the allocation results at the ministry’s meeting room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the minister said ensuring good governance, transparency and easier access to public services was a government commitment.

He said the online system had been introduced to simplify and speed up the Department of Government Accommodation’s house allocation process and make it more accessible to citizens.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to promote transparency and good governance across the ministry’s activities, he added.

Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manzoor and other officials were present at the event.
