Milestone Tragedy Victims Inspire Nation: Zubaida

Prime Minister's wife and Vice-President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Dr Zubaida Rahman, on Tuesday said the courage, resilience and humanity displayed by the teachers, students and parents affected by the Milestone School and College air crash would remain an enduring source of inspiration for the nation.

"The example of courage, compassion and sacrifice that the country and the world witnessed during this difficult time is rare in history. The true beauty of humanity lies in people standing beside one another in times of crisis," she said.

Dr Zubaida made the remarks while addressing a discussion and remembrance programme at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, organised in memory of those who lost their lives in the Milestone School and College tragedy.

On July 22, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, killing 36 people, including 28 students.

At the beginning of her speech, she paid tribute to the students, teachers, staff members and others who died in the accident, praying for the eternal peace of their souls and expressing condolences to their families.

Describing the crash as a tragedy that plunged the nation into mourning, she said the grief of the bereaved families had been shared by people across the country.

She also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and urged everyone to transform grief into strength.

Dr Zubaida said the resilience shown by the injured students and teachers had become an inspiration for the entire nation.

"The nation will never forget how they moved forward with courage and determination despite their traumatic experiences. The strength they have shown will inspire others to overcome adversity and stand beside those in distress," she said.

She thanked the Fire Service, the Doctors Association of Bangladesh, the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and other organisations for their support during the crisis.

She also expressed gratitude to the governments of the United Kingdom, China, India and Singapore for extending assistance following the tragedy.
