The programme was officially launched in the afternoon at Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park in Gulshan, said a media statement.

The organisers said that as part of this month-long programme, they will run an awareness campaign in every educational institution, mosque, neighborhood and slum area.

They will also distribute banners, posters and leaflets.

Gulshan Society President Barrister Omar Sadat said there are mosquitoes everywhere in the world. But nowhere else do so many people die from mosquito bites as in our country.

He said, "Only due to ignorance and irresponsibility, about 2,700 people have died of dengue in the last three years. The issue is very worrying and disappointing."

The President of Gulshan Society said mosquito control or dengue prevention is not a matter of one day or a specific time. For this reason, Gulshan Society will continue its activities throughout the year.

Gulshan Society Secretary General Mujibur Rahman Mridha, Vice President Abdul Majed, DNCC officials and employees and local people from all walks of life were present at the event, reports UNB.
