Gaffar Chowdhury's body to arrive in Dhaka on May 28

The body of language movement veteran and prominent columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury - best known for writing the lyrics of "Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano" - will arrive in Dhaka on Saturday (May 28) under full state arrangement.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Saida Muna Tasneem said that Bangladesh High Commission, London has completed the entire process of sending the body of late Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury to Bangladesh under full state management at the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said a press release of the Bangladesh High Commission in London here today.

She hoped that Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying his body will depart the London's Heathrow Airport on Friday evening (May 27) and reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday noon (Bangladesh time) in Dhaka.

Arrangements have also been made to send family members of the late Gaffar Chowdhury to Dhaka with the same flight, she added.

According to the desire of Gaffar Chowdhury, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed all concerned to bring back his body to his beloved homeland so that he could be laid next to the grave of his wife, she continued.

Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury passed away at a hospital in London on May 19 last at the age of 88.

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held on May 20 after Jummah prayers at the Brick Lane Mosque in East London.

After that, Gaffar Chowdhury's body was taken to Shaheed Altaf Ali Park where people from all walks of life paid their last respects to him, reports BSS.
