Prime Minister Tarique Rahman meets Ramisa’s parents at their home in Pallabi tonight (21 May).
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met the family of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter at their home in the Pallabi area of the capital on Thursday night (May 21), following her brutal rape and murder.
He reached the residence around 9pm after attending a cabinet meeting at the Secretariat, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
During the visit, the Prime Minister expressed deep condolences to the grieving family and assured them of a prompt and fair investigation into the incident.
Earlier in the day, Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that authorities would ensure exemplary punishment in the shortest possible time.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman also directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner to submit the investigation report within one week, warning that failure to ensure justice in such a serious case would send the wrong message to society.
Police recovered Ramisa’s dismembered body on Tuesday (May 19) from a rented flat on the third floor of a building in Pallabi’s Section 11, Mirpur-11. Authorities said the body parts were found in different locations inside the flat.
The main accused, Sohel Rana, later gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court, admitting to the crime. His wife, Swapna Khatun, has been sent to jail in connection with the case.
