Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visits Bogura, marking milestone tour with development pledges and emotional homecoming.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka early Sunday for his home district Bogura, marking his first visit since assuming office following the 13th parliamentary elections.
He departed his Gulshan residence around 6:10am and is scheduled to reach Bogura Circuit House by late morning. His wife, Zubaida Rahman, is accompanying him on the tour.
The visit is seen as both politically significant and emotionally meaningful, as the prime minister is returning to his ancestral roots after a long gap. He is expected to visit his family home in Bagbari, Gabtoli, for the first time in nearly two decades.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the visit, expressing hope that it will accelerate development in the district. Bogura has a historic political legacy, having been closely associated with former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
During the day-long programme, the prime minister is set to inaugurate several initiatives and development projects. These include the launch of an e-bail bond system, inauguration of the Bogura District Bar Association building, and the formal declaration of Bogura municipality as a city corporation.
He will also kick off the 2026 measles-rubella vaccination campaign, attend a family card distribution programme, and inaugurate canal excavation work aimed at improving local water management.
In the afternoon, he is scheduled to join a public rally organised by the local BNP unit and later inaugurate the new building of the Bogura Press Club and reconstruction work of a central mosque.
Officials said the visit may bring new momentum to infrastructure development, local governance and economic activities in the district.
The prime minister is expected to return to Dhaka by road in the evening after completing his engagements.
