Govt Rolls Out Welfare Programmes to Uplift Lives

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government has begun implementing a range of welfare programmes aimed at improving the living standards of people across all sections of society.

In a message marking Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year, the prime minister said the initiatives focus on inclusive development and social support for diverse groups.

He noted that the government, formed after a decisive electoral victory, has prioritised public welfare as part of its commitments. Several programmes are already underway, including the distribution of family cards and sports cards, canal excavation projects, and financial assistance for imams, muazzins, khatibs and other religious figures.

The prime minister also announced that a Farmers’ Card programme will be launched on Pahela Baishakh, expressing hope that it will strengthen the agricultural sector and support farmers nationwide.

Extending greetings for the Bengali New Year 1433, he described Pahela Baishakh as a symbol of cultural identity, heritage and unity for Bengali-speaking people around the world.

He said the occasion inspires people to move forward with renewed hope, leaving behind past hardships. Highlighting the deep connection between the Bengali calendar and agriculture, he noted that farming activities in the region still follow natural cycles despite technological progress.

The message also underlined the role of traditional events such as Boishakhi fairs, processions and halkhata in preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Reaffirming his commitment to public welfare, the prime minister expressed hope that harmony, tolerance and respect for diversity would continue to strengthen democracy and social cohesion.
