Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today inaugurated the 'Army Headquarters Selection Board-2025' at the Army Headquarters in Dhaka. The board’s first phase will consider eligible Bangladesh Army officers for promotion to the ranks of colonel and lieutenant colonel.

In his address, Prof Yunus paid tribute to the martyrs, war-wounded, and freedom fighters of the 1971 Liberation War, especially those from the armed forces. He also remembered army personnel injured or martyred while serving in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, as well as the victims of the July 2024 mass uprising.

He urged the selection board members to prioritize professional competence, leadership, discipline, honesty, trustworthiness, loyalty, and overall suitability when selecting officers for promotion. Prof Yunus emphasized that officers with integrity and strong leadership qualities deserve higher ranks, regardless of political views.

Highlighting the Bangladesh Army’s role, he noted its contributions not only to safeguarding the nation’s independence and sovereignty but also in maintaining internal peace, stability, and assisting civil authorities during disasters.

Upon arrival, Prof Yunus was welcomed by Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, senior military officials, and civil dignitaries. The Chief of Army Staff thanked the Chief Adviser for inaugurating the selection board.

The ceremony concluded with a group photo session and Prof Yunus signing the visitors’ book.
