BNP leader Ishraque gets engaged to Barrister Nusrat

The simple engagement ceremony took place on Friday night at the residence of Nusrat’s father, former minister Advocate Nur Muhammad Khan, in Baridhara, where the bride and groom exchanged rings.

Talking to UNB, Nur Muhammad Khan said, “My eldest daughter Nusrat Khan received her engagement ring last night as she begins a new journey in life. We urge all to pray for them and bless the couple.”

Ishraque is a member of BNP’s advisory committee on foreign affairs and was BNP’s candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation. He was declared elected mayor by the court in March this year, but could not assume office due to legal complications.

Nusrat Khan completed her LLB Honours in London and qualified as a barrister at Inner Temple. She also completed advanced law courses at Cambridge University and Oxford University, and is currently serving as Vice Principal of the British School of Law in Dhaka.

Nusrat is the eldest of three daughters of Nur Muhammad Khan, who served as a minister in the cabinet of President Ziaur Rahman and Justice Abdus Sattar.

Nur Muhammad Khan, a two-time former MP from Tangail-6, said the engagement ceremony was entirely private, with no outside guests invited.

Family members, including Ishraque’s mother, late Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s widow Ismat Ara Hossain, and his brother Ishfaque Hossain, were present at the event, reports UNB.
