Bangladeshi expatriate investors based in the UAE have proposed investing Tk1,000 crore in Bangladesh, with plans to discuss the investment proposal with government officials in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The investors announced the proposal at a press conference at the Economic Reporters’ Forum in the capital on Monday. Members of the Bangladesh Commercially Important Person (CIP)-Business Association organised the event.

The proposed investments would cover several sectors, including digital and AI-based Islamic banking, dry food processing and packaging, e-rental services, solar panels and renewable energy, tourism, education and healthcare.

“Expatriates are not merely a source of remittances; they are partners in Bangladesh’s economy, investors and development partners,” an association member said.

The investors are scheduled to meet officials of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) on August 18 to discuss the proposed investments, according to a press release.

They said they would be able to commit the proposed investment if the government ensures easier approvals, land or lease facilities, necessary infrastructure, investment protection and one-stop services.

The investors also called for greater government support for non-resident Bangladeshis seeking to invest in the country, including faster regulatory approvals and a more investment-friendly business environment.
