Bangladesh showcases goods at Global Sourcing Expo Melbourne

A total of twelve Bangladeshi institutions are participating in this international exhibition, an initiative led by the Bangladesh High Commission in Australia, said a press release here.

Of the twelve participating firms, eleven are producers and suppliers of ready-made garments (RMG), displaying their apparel with funding provided by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

In addition to the RMG sector, one Bangladeshi institution specializing in jute products is also taking part in the trade show.

The exhibition activities for Bangladeshi export items were inaugurated by F M Borhan Uddin, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Australia.

Joint Secretary Nahid Afroze, representing the Ministry of Commerce; Mahmudul Hasan, Director (Fairs and Exhibitions) of the EPB and Commercial Counsellor Roni Chakma were also present on the occasion.

The Global Sourcing Expo is a major international trade event, featuring approximately 600 producers and suppliers from 20 countries. 

These international trade exhibitions are held twice annually in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. The event functions as an important platform for importers, exporters, producers, and suppliers to display products, explore new markets, and establish mutual communication.

The sources highlighted the strategic importance of the Australian market to Bangladesh. Bilateral trade between Australia and Bangladesh currently stands at A$5 billion.

Ready-made garments form the vast majority of Bangladesh's exports to Australia, accounting for approximately 93 per cent of the total export products, reports BSS. 

Bangladesh is currently ranked as Australia's 23rd largest trading partner.
