Broadband internet services restored around 2pm

Dhaka, Aug 05 - Broadband internet services were restored around 2pm on Monday after around three hours of suspension.

People got disconnected online with the rest of the world as the broadband internet was blocked around 10:15 am. Later the services were restored around 2 pm.

Internet Services Providers' Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) President Emdadul Haque told UNB over mobile phone that they weren't getting broadband internet from the international gateway from 10:30am.

Replying to a question, he said that they don't know when the broadband internet services will restore.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, the government shut down mobile internet services and restricted access to Meta platforms - Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission issued the directive to shut down the mobile internet announcing that 4G network will remain halted untill further notice and only 2G services will be available for making calls.

Earlier broadband internet services remained blocked for six days since July 19 amid students’ quota movement and access to social media platforms were blocked.
