Int'l Week of the Disappeared: Families wait for dear ones

Human rights 2022-05-29, 12:08am

Ensure return of disappeared persons, affected families urge.

Dhaka, May 28 -- Family members of the disappeared people across the country formed a human chain in the capital’s Shabagh on Saturday demanding to get back their dear ones.

Mayer Dak, a platform representing the families of the victims of enforced disappearances, organsied the programme on the occasion of International Week of the Disappeared.

The week, which focuses on people who have gone missing with their whereabouts completely unknown to their families, reminds the government about the mental and emotional wreckage of the victims and their families.

Sumaiya Akter said she attended the human chain to make an appeal to the government to get back her husband.

Every year in the last week of May, the associations of families of the disappeared commemorate the International Week of the Disappeared. - UNB
