Dhaka, 4 October: The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has taken variou6 s programs to celebrate the World Habitat Day in a befitting and colorful manner. A discussion session marking World Habitat Day 2025 will be held at 10am on 6 October at the Hall of Fame, Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center, Dhaka. The theme for this year’s observance is ‘Urban Crisis Response’.
Adviser to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and Ministry of Industries Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis will attend the discussion program on the occasion.
To mark the occasion, a rally will also be held on 6 October at 8:30 a.m., starting from Zia Uddyan and ending at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center. The day will also be celebrated at divisional and district levels across the country. A souvenir publication, special TV and radio talk shows, and display of banners, posters, and festoons at important locations are also part of the observance program.
Besides, a two-day exhibition will be held at the lobby of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center on 6–7 October 2025, marking the day. The exhibition will showcase products and services related to the housing and construction sectors, with participation from REHAB, RAJUK, architects, urban planners, and various departments and agencies under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
In line with the year’s theme and the concept of “Housing for All,” a seminar will be organized in addition, featuring three papers: ‘Resilient Community Oasis: Inclusive Public Open Spaces for Earthquake Preparedness’ by Dr. Sudipti Biswas, Professor, MIST; ‘An Assessment of Informal Settlement and Low-Cost Housing Initiatives in Bangladesh: Failures, Success Factors and a Framework for Sustainable Urban Development” by Uswatun Mahera Khushi, Board Member, Jatiyo Kobi Kazi Nazrul Islam University; ‘Journey Toward Housing Solutions Amid the Urban Crisis’ by Country Director, Habitat for Humanity. – PID
