Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to depart for Rome on Sunday to participate in the flagship World Food Forum (WFF), hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Prof Yunus and his official delegation will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at approximately 11:30am.

During his visit, Prof Yunus will deliver a keynote address at the main session of the WFF, highlighting innovative approaches to food security, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. His speech is expected to draw on Bangladesh’s experiences in combating hunger and promoting inclusive economic growth.

In addition to the keynote, Prof Yunus will hold bilateral meetings with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and senior representatives from international organizations, discussing strategies to strengthen global food systems, climate-resilient agriculture, and equitable access to nutrition.

The World Food Forum, hosted at FAO Headquarters in Rome from 11 to 17 October, serves as a global platform for policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and civil society to exchange ideas, foster innovation, and collaborate on solutions for sustainable food production and distribution.

Prof Yunus’s participation underscores Bangladesh’s active engagement in global development dialogue and its commitment to contributing to international efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Zero Hunger and No Poverty.

He is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Wednesday, after completing his engagements at the forum and bilateral meetings, bringing insights and proposals to further strengthen Bangladesh’s strategies in food security and sustainable development.

Experts note that his presence at the WFF will not only raise Bangladesh’s profile on the global stage but also provide opportunities for collaboration and partnerships that could benefit national and regional food systems in the long term.
