Chattogram, Aug 26 -Coast Guard members detained 29 fishermen with five illegal artisanal trawling boats and huge fishing nets in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram district late Monday night.

Lt. Shakib Mehboob, media officer of the Coast Guard East Zone, said tipped-off, a team conducted a drive in Shekherkhil Govt Bazar area and recovered the boats and nets worth Tk 36 lakh.

All fishing equipment was removed from the boats and 10 trawling nets were destroyed in presence of the upazila fisheries officer, he said.

The boat owners were fined Tk 10.50 lakh and then the detained fishermen were freed. - UNB
