At least 15 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out early Friday at Alexander Bazar in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur.

The fire started around 3 am, said Khokon Majumdar, station officer of Ramgati Fire Service.

According to locals, the blaze originated from an electrical short circuit at Rasel’s grocery shop and quickly spread to adjacent shops.

On information, two units of the fire service rushed to the spot and, with the help of locals, managed to bring the fire under control after about two hours of frantic effort.

Shop owners estimated that the loss caused by the fire amounted to around Tk 50 lakh, reports UNB.
