Dhaka, Nov 4 - Miscreants set three buses on fire in Dhaka’s New Market and Elephant Road and Sayedabad areas on Saturday evening ahead of the countrywide 48-hour blockade enforced by BNP-led oppositions.

Sources at the fire service headquarters' control room said a bus from Mirpur Link Paribahan was set on fire opposite of Gausia Market gate- 4 around 7:30 pm.

Being informed, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame, said Duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room, Rozina Islam.

Besides, a staff bus of the Green University was torched around 7:35 pm near the Multiplan City Centre at Elephant Road. Getting information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, added Rozina.

No causalities were reported immediately following the two incidents, she said.

Another bus was set on fire under the Hanif flyover at the Janapad Road in the Sayedadab area at 7:35 pm on Saturday.

Being informed, two firefighting units went to the spot and brought the fire under control, Rozina also said.

The BNP and like-minded opposition parties are set to enforce another nationwide blockade of roads, rail, and waterways for 48 hours starting Sunday morning to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit and pave the way for the next election under a non-party neutral administration. - UNB
