Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for the formation of a high-level committee to oversee the overall management of key aspects related to the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. The committee will address crucial issues, including ensuring fair pricing of sacrificial animal rawhides, facilitating proper transportation of animals, waste management, and other related concerns.

At a meeting held on Sunday at the State Guest House Jamuna, Professor Yunus highlighted the persistent issues faced by the public during the Eid celebration, especially the unfair pricing of rawhides. The Chief Adviser noted that such issues, including manipulation by syndicates, have led to significant hardship for the poor, who rely on the sale of sacrificial animal hides for income.

“We have seen for a long time that people, especially the poor, are being deprived of fair prices for rawhides, a vital source of income during Eid-ul-Azha. This mismanagement must end,” said Professor Yunus.

The Chief Adviser also drew attention to the control exerted by syndicates over rawhide prices, and he assured that the interim government would take all necessary measures to prevent such exploitation. “We will ensure that no one is deprived of fair prices for sacrificial animal hides due to the actions of any syndicate or mismanagement,” he affirmed.

Furthermore, Professor Yunus stressed the need to ensure humane treatment of sacrificial animals during their transportation and sale. “It is crucial that no cruelty is shown to the animals in the process. We must ensure they are treated with care during their journey to the markets,” he stated.

The Chief Adviser also underscored the importance of using Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) during rawhide processing to manage waste effectively and minimize environmental impact.

Following the meeting, the Chief Adviser directed the formation of a high-level committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of these directives. The committee will be headed by the Commerce Adviser and will include the Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, Industries Adviser, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser, Information Adviser, Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives Adviser, Home Adviser, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on the Ministry of Home Affairs, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Industries Secretary, and representatives from religious institutions and the leather industry.

The committee will be responsible for addressing the issues of fair pricing, humane animal treatment, environmental protection, and waste management in the lead-up to Eid-ul-Azha. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to resolving these long-standing problems and ensuring that the celebrations are conducted fairly, ethically, and responsibly.

In conclusion, the Chief Adviser reaffirmed the interim government’s dedication to resolving these issues and emphasized that the welfare of the public and ethical treatment of animals must be at the forefront of the Eid-ul-Azha management process.
