The holy Shab-e-Barat, known as the night of fortune and forgiveness, will be observed across the country tonight with due religious fervour, devotion and solemnity.

On the occasion, the Islamic Foundation has drawn up a series of religious programmes at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital. The programmes include waz (religious sermons), doa mahfil, special prayers, recitation from the Holy Quran, and Hamd and Naat, which will begin this evening and continue through the night.

In addition to the central programmes at Baitul Mukarram, mosques across the country will host religious sermons focusing on the spiritual significance of Shab-e-Barat after Maghrib prayers. Special munajat and prayers will also be held after Isha prayers, with worshippers seeking divine mercy, forgiveness and blessings.

Marking the occasion, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has issued a message extending heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world. In his message, he called upon the faithful to follow the ideals of Islam, promote peace, compassion and harmony, and work for the welfare of humanity.

Shab-e-Barat holds deep religious importance for Muslims, who believe that on this night Allah determines the fate of individuals for the coming year. Throughout the night, many devotees engage in additional prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran and remembrance of Allah, seeking forgiveness for past sins and guidance for the future.

A large number of people are also expected to visit nearby graveyards to offer special doa and munajat for the eternal peace of the souls of their departed relatives and loved ones.

In keeping with the spirit of charity associated with the night, many people distribute food, money and sweetmeats among the poor, orphaned and destitute, emphasising compassion and generosity as core Islamic values.

Law enforcement agencies and local administrations have taken measures to ensure peaceful observance of the occasion across the country.
