Saudi Arabia and several other Middle Eastern countries are observing the holy Eid-ul-Azha on Wednesday (May 27) with deep religious devotion and festive spirit, following the completion of the most significant Hajj ritual, Wuquf-e-Arafah.

The celebration began after millions of pilgrims gathered at the plains of Arafat on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah, marking the peak of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. Nearly 1.6 million worshippers from around the world assembled at the sacred site, reciting prayers and chanting “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk” throughout the day.

In accordance with Islamic tradition, standing at Arafat is the central pillar of Hajj. Pilgrims spent the day within designated boundaries, engaged in prayer, Quran recitation, repentance, and heartfelt supplications, seeking spiritual purification and divine mercy.

The annual Hajj sermon was delivered at the Namirah Mosque by Shaykh Ali Al Hudhaifi, Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Haram. The sermon, broadcast in 35 languages including Bangla, emphasized unity among Muslims, adherence to Islamic values, and the importance of global peace.

After sunset prayers, pilgrims proceeded to Muzdalifah, where they spent the night under open skies and collected pebbles for the next ritual phase in Mina.

On the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, pilgrims perform the symbolic stoning of the devil at Jamarat, followed by the ritual animal sacrifice. They then shave or trim their hair, marking partial release from the state of Ihram, before continuing with the Tawaf around the Holy Kaaba.

Meanwhile, a festive atmosphere has spread across the region, including the United Arab Emirates, where expatriate communities from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India are also preparing to celebrate Eid with family and loved ones.

Saudi authorities have implemented extensive arrangements to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims amid extreme heat. Measures include shaded areas, water mist stations, and a fleet of around 24,000 buses to manage transportation during the Hajj season.
