Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal, Md Shafiqur Rahman, has emphasised the urgent need for regional cooperation to tackle the growing impacts of climate change across South Asia.

Speaking as the chief guest at the closing session of the first day of the “International Climate Camp 2025: Symposium on Climate Change in South Asia,” held at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, the Ambassador stressed the importance of inclusive and collective climate action among neighbouring countries.

He highlighted the potential for collaboration between Bangladesh and Nepal in areas such as clean energy, hydropower, research exchange, and knowledge-sharing, which can significantly contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to working with regional partners to address climate challenges and promote global climate leadership.

He also urged the young delegates attending the camp to become advocates and collaborators in advancing climate solutions through shared action plans involving countries, communities, and institutions.

Distinguished participants at the event included renowned water and climate expert Prof Dr Ainun Nishat, a former Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University; senior officials from Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division; faculty from Tribhuvan University; and representatives from UNDP, WaterAid Nepal, ICIMOD, and other prominent organisations.

As a gesture of appreciation, Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman presented tokens of recognition to researchers and academicians who contributed to the symposium’s discussions.

The Climate Camp, held from July 4–8 across multiple venues in Nepal, brings together over 100 participants from Bangladesh and Nepal — including youth, researchers, and climate professionals — to share ideas and shape policy recommendations on climate adaptation and mitigation across the region.
