Petrobangla on Tuesday urged the public not to be misled by rumours circulating on social media claiming that gas supply across the country would be completely suspended for four days.

In a press release, state-run Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) said a vested quarter is deliberately spreading panic by circulating fake photocards bearing the logos of various news outlets and falsely claiming that gas supply would be completely shut down for the next four days.

Clarifying the situation, Petrobangla said regasification operations at the Summit LNG Terminal, one of the two liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals in Maheshkhali of Cox's Bazar, have been temporarily suspended for emergency maintenance.

As a result, the daily gas supply may decline from 2,570 million cubic feet (mmcfd) to 2,250 mmcfd over the next four days, it said.

However, Petrobangla made it clear that there would be no complete shutdown of gas supply, although some areas might experience temporarily reduced gas pressure, reports UNB.
