BGFCL targets 106.5 mmcfd additional gas by 2030

The state-run gas company is implementing five projects as part of the government's plan to drill 150 wells nationwide, BGFCL General Manager Engineer Ashraful Alam said on Saturday.

BGFCL also expects to add another 126 mmcfd through nine new wells and workovers of 12 existing wells. Under the government's long-term master plan, about 235 mmcfd of gas is projected to be added to the national grid from 19 wells by 2035, Alam said.

BGFCL currently operates six gas fields -- Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi, Meghna and Kamta -- and supplies about 30 percent of the country's domestic gas, equivalent to around 18 percent of total gas supply.

The company is conducting seismic surveys to identify new structures for exploration and development. A 3D seismic survey is underway across 1,450 square kilometres, covering 875 sq km in and around Habiganj and 575 sq km across the Bakhrabad, Narsingdi and Meghna fields. Another 632 sq km is being surveyed using 2D and 3D seismic methods northwest of Titas and northeast of Narsingdi.

Under a project to drill four appraisal-cum-development wells in the Titas and Kamta fields, drilling of Titas-28 began on December 15, 2025, and was completed on June 19, 2026.

Chinese company CNPC Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd (CCDC) carried out the drilling under an integrated contract signed with BGFCL on April 10, 2025.

The well was drilled to a measured depth of 3,601 metres and a true vertical depth of 3,471 metres. Completion, including drill-stem and production testing, has also been completed.

BGFCL is also drilling the Titas-31 and Titas-29 deep exploration wells to increase gas production, reports BSS.
