Gas supply from the LNG terminal operated by Excelerate Energy in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, resumed on Saturday after remaining shut for three days.

A Petrobangla official said the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) resumed operations around 2pm and was initially supplying about 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to the national grid.

With gas supplies from the country’s two LNG terminals, total LNG-based gas supply has increased to around 686 mmcfd. Another 300 mmcfd could be added to the national grid by midnight, the official said.

Petrobangla Chairman Abdul Mannan said an LNG cargo that was scheduled to arrive at the terminal on Sunday reached a day earlier than expected, allowing the terminal to resume gas supplies on Saturday.

He said LNG-based gas supply stood at around 580 mmcfd at 2pm before the new cargo arrived. The supply subsequently increased to about 686 mmcfd.

Of the total LNG-based supply, Summit is currently supplying around 580 mmcfd of gas.

Overall gas supply in the country has also increased to around 2,300 mmcfd, according to Petrobangla.

“We are working to bring in more LNG cargoes to keep gas supply at a reliable level,” Mannan said.

According to Petrobangla sources, the Excelerate-operated LNG terminal in Maheshkhali was shut down following a fire on July 21. Although the terminal later resumed LNG supply, operations were suspended again on August 19 due to a shortage of LNG cargo stock.
